How many Slink licenses do I need?

When purchased from the Mac App Store

If you purchase Slink from the Mac App Store, it is licensed as follows:

  • Slink is licensed on a per iTunes account basis.
  • You can install Slink on as many Macs that you own or control for personal use.
  • You must use the same iTunes account on all Macs.

Please note:

  • Only the Slink app requires a license per iTunes account. The Slink Agent is free and does not require a license.
  • An iTunes account is normally a personal account.
  • Due to Mac App Store limitations, a Slink 5-user Family Pack is not available.

When purchased from the Slinkware Store

If you purchase Slink from the Slinkware Store, it is licensed as follows:

  • Slink is licensed on a per person basis.
  • You can install Slink on as many Macs that you own or control for personal use.

Please note:

  • Only the Slink app requires a license per person. The Slink Agent is free and does not require a license.
  • The Slink 5-user Family Pack is the best deal if you need more than one license.

The model of licensing the app fits the model of one person controlling macs belonging to others. But the opposite usage pattern also occurs: one user getting to their mac(s) on the road from whatever mac is at hand. The latter model suggests that the user should have the option of attaching a license to the Slink agent, and then they can download and use an unlicensed app to get to their agent.

There are definetely many licensing models that we could have gone with for Slink. At the end of the day we decided on a model that we think is simple to understand and fair to users. Having said that, we are always open to selling Slink under alternate models for users requiring it, Just contact us and let's talk! Olof

I am still trying to understand how the licensing works. Does one license allow me to connect to as many slink agents as I want? Or is it one license per slink agent (the home mac)?
